2008 - 2009 Scholarship Information:
ASL AEF Grant Guidelines

Applications for the Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation Scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year are divided into two separate distinct categories with separate time frames.

Please note the postmark restrictions for your institution and follow the guidelines carefully to ensure eligibility of your application(s).

Principles

  1. Foundation grants will be made to adult students in continuing higher education based on scholarship, leadership, the clarity and content of their personal statement, strength of recommendation and need.
  2. Funds will be disbursed to college business/treasurer's office in the name of the student as a credit to his/her account.
  3. Maximum award per individual will be determined each year.

Eligibility (Previous recipients may not reapply)

Applicant must:

  1. Attend an institution with an active Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter and may be nominated by that chapter, but do not have to be chapter members.
  2. Be 24 years of age or older.
  3. Be matriculated in a program leading to the baccalaureate or associates degree, not graduate level
  4. Have completed 30 graded semester hours (or equivalent) in institutional coursework by the completion of the fall semester or winter quarter at the institution in which presently enrolled with a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.4 (Triangle Club: Second Century Scholarships) or 3.2 (General Foundation Scholarships) on a scale with 4.0 as the highest grade.
  5. Demonstrate financial need for the 2006-07 academic year (beginning fall, 2006) at the institution where the student is currently enrolled.
  6. Complete the application in the required format and submit it to the chapter councilor with sufficient lead time for verification.

Non-Discrimination Policy

No applicant will be denied eligibility for a Scholarship Grant on the basis of race, creed, color, sex or national origin.

Conflict of Interest Policy

No relative or member of the household of any Society or Foundation Director or member of the Selection Committee will be eligible for a Scholarship Grant.

Procedures

  1. Applicants must submit the application form, one official transcript of their academic record at their current institution, a personal statement, and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
  2. Each ASL chapter may nominate and forward no more than two candidates.
  3. Following review of applications based on criteria previously determined scholarship award decisions will be made on the basis of total points assigned by a Selection Committee appointed by the President.
