ASL enjoys sharing what has been happening with our chapters and alumni! Here are some of the recent events of our ASL members!
Jillian Ross has been selected to receive the fall 2007 scholarship awarded by the Gamma Phi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda at Fairfield University. Jillian is majoring in Professional Studies with a concentration in English and Writing. In addition to earning a GPA of 3.26 at Fairfield, Jill is a free lance landscaper. She is also a talented writer and has had several short stories and essays published in local magazines and newspapers. Her long term goal is to attend graduate school and earn an MFA in creative writing.
The Gamma Phi Chapter at Fairfield University offers one scholarship each semester to a student who earns a strong academic record and demonstrates financial need. This semester six worthy students applied for the scholarship. The recipient was selected by the ASL Scholarship committee comprised of Chairman Barbara Wanamaker, Judy Vindheim, Maria Duffy, and Christine Duffy. All scholarship committee members are active members of the Gamma Phi Chapter at Fairfield University.

The Nu Eta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda is sponsored by Luzerne County Community College, Nanticoke, PA. The chapter was founded in 2005 and has 94 members. The Honor Society recently held an induction ceremony welcoming 36 new members. Our website is at http://clubs.luzerne.edu/asl. We are looking forward to a wonderful school year and continued growth in membership.

University of IndianapolisIn November 1968, the Board of Councilors of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for adult learners, accepted the petition of the University of Indianapolis (formerly Indiana Central University until May 1986) for the establishment of a chapter. This chapter is known as the Alpha Nu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda.
The following students were inducted into the Alpha Nu Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda on Saturday, May 6, 2006, during the 38th annual induction ceremony at University of Indianapolis: Kristina M. Bales, Tsarai R. Chimhanda, Rosemarie Cravens, Dennis J. Hershberger, Rosemarie Howard, Beverly A. Marine, Catherine M. Robinson, Karen L. Spencer, Katherine Jo Ann Stierwalt, Joseph A. Sugimura, and Sonja R. White.
Kristina M. Bales was recognized as the inductee with the highest grade point average in the class of 2006.

Twelve University of Arkansas - Fort Smith students have been inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society for nontraditional adult students.
This is the first induction ceremony on the UA Fort Smith campus for Alpha Sigma Lambda, which was first established in 1945 to honor superior scholarship and leadership in adult students. Members must be at least 25 years old, have earned a minimum of 24 college semester hours with 12 hours in the liberal arts area and have at least a 3.5 grade point average. Those selected are from the highest 10 percent of their respective classes and are pursuing either a two-year or a four-year degree.

Zanette Douglas, director of adult programs and services and an associate professor, is the staff adviser for the new organization. Honorary inductees included Dr. Sandi Sanders, senior vice chancellor and chief of staff; Dr. Michael Lane, vice chancellor for academic affairs/provost; Ken Pyle, vice chancellor for student and campus life; Dr. Karen Stauffacher, dean, College of Arts and Sciences and University College; and Debbie Findlay, academic adviser, who will also serve as co-adviser for the organization.
