ASL Foundation Scholarship Winner Spotlight:
Janice Favreau

JaniceI am sincerely grateful to have been selected as one of the recipients of an Alpha Sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation Scholarship Award, for two reasons; first, the honor of being chosen a national winner and second for the financial assistance that it is providing to me as I enter the final chapter of my college journey. I am a single Mom who is still paying for my son's college along with my many other bills, so the receipt of this financial assistance is helping me to take another step closer to my goal on this journey. But equally important to me is recognition of my academic efforts by the receipt of the award. As an adult student who is balancing the challenges of a full time employment, family and community involvement along with my college career, it is thrilling to have those efforts recognized and celebrated.

I am in my senior year at the University of Hartford, and am expecting to graduate in December of this year. This scholarship will take me one step further along the final path of achieving my goal; that is, a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies. However, I know that I will never stop being a life-long learner, and perhaps will pursue another degree. But for now, I greatly appreciate the Foundation's consideration and generosity with this award.

There are many other "courses" of life that I am anxious to pursue, such as my continued advocacy for the disabled population of our state. The receipt of my Bachelor's Degree will not only provide me with the credentials that I have yearned for all my life, but also will provide me with a foundation of knowledge to spring from as I pursue this advocacy.

I would urge every adult student to make the time in their busy lives to apply for the ASLAEF Scholarship, not only to take advantage of an opportunity to provide some relief from the concern on how the next class will be paid for, but also for an opportunity to receive an honor that will remain with them the rest of their lives.

Again, I extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to the Foundation for awarding this scholarship to me. Furthermore, I am grateful to the Alpha Sigma Lambda Organization for not only recognizing me, but all adult learners who overcome a variety of challenges to pursue their dream of higher education.
