Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society has been working on moving forward, and focused on growth in 2016. As part of this these new efforts towards development, the Board of Directors decided to consult Larry M. Starr, PhD and his associates at Systems Wisdom to see if they could help Alpha Sigma Lambda create a long term strategic plan.
The goal of this strategic plan was to help identify how the organization can better serve our adult honor student members, councilors, and grow as an organization so we can continue to honor the hard work of adult students, which is the heart of this organization, and continue to support adult honor students by increasing Alpha Sigma Lambda scholarships in the future.
The Alpha Sigma Lambda strategic planning sessions were led by John Pourdehnad, PhD, “recognized thought leader in systems and design thinking with primary areas of interest in the implications of systems thinking in complex interactive problem formulation, systems redesign and complex project management.” The first of these sessions included Alpha Sigma Lambda Board of Directors, staff members, social media staff, student members, chapter counselors and students in DOCTOR OF MANAGEMENT IN STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP program at Philadelphia University.
After the initial group meeting, we divided into smaller teams, in hopes that we could identify which areas people saw the organization growing, what areas need more support, and what people saw as the ideal Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor society in the future. Many great ideas were shared, and at the end everyone was excited about new ideas, and opportunities for Alpha Sigma Lambda to help adult honor students across the country for many years to come.
The latest planning session focused on the current staff and board members, identifying research and previous planning, we hoped to bring forward discussion based brainstorming during the meeting. Members helped determine the best directions to move forward with the help of the strategic planners, and finalized the strategic plan. This meeting was held in New Orleans in October 2016 and in conjunction with the Association for Continuing Higher Education 2016 Conference.
