Alpha Sigma Lambda graduates, each one of you has a story. Each one of you has a unique journey of how you found your way to pursuing a college education, perhaps stopping and starting again as you also navigated the challenges and joys of life. You moved towards your goal, and finally, after years of hard work (and late nights of studying for many of you), you have achieved your degree.
Many of you probably also imagined the day you would walk across the stage, shake the hand of your institution’s president, and receive your diploma, with your family and friends watching.Perhaps you were looking forward to that day, as you worked on your final classes, completing your final assignments. Yet, as your graduation approached, Commencements were canceled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.I know that many of you were likely disappointed, and understandably so. Commencement ceremonies can serve as the grand finale to achieving your degree.
As virtual ceremonies replaced the on-ground ones, I want to remind you that the sudden change in events does not diminish your accomplishments. Quite the contrary, when classes moved online, campuses closed, industries and companies shut down, unemployment increased exponentially, and people were falling ill with an unknown virus, you managed to continue your path. Regardless of how the current situation affected you, you managed to keep moving forward to complete your degree. The Board of Directors and the Home Office of Alpha Sigma Lambda are proud of your accomplishments! We hope that you still had a nice celebration, even if it wasn’t what you expected.
