Nylisha Hughes | 2019 Scholarship Recipient

Nylisha was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Nylisha first began working with children as young as age three as a Martial Arts Instructor. Whilst studying Dietetics and Nutrition at Bronx Community College, Nylisha became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. After obtaining her Associate’s Degree and spending a semester away from home to gain new knowledge, she returned to New York to study at the City College of New York’s Center for Worker Education, where she is currently an Early Childhood Education Major with a concentration in History, Politics, and Society. 

Nylisha is expected to graduate with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Spring 2020 and plans to continue her education to earn her Masters and Doctorate degree. Nylisha believes in the power of mentorship and leading by example. She believes that with hard work, perseverance, a strong mindset, and making the most out of every opportunity anything is possible. 

Moreover, Nylisha believes in being hands-on, getting involved, and giving back to marginalized communities like the one in which she grew up. Among her volunteer experience is her service as an effective organizer of World AIDS Day. In 2018, Nylisha was recognized for her academic achievement, making her a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society.
